Next Stop: CornerView Junction

Transportation is the theme for this weeks Corner View posts (to find a list of participants click here). Since I was young I have had a love affair with automobiles. Don't believe me? Just check out my posts on this very blog under the autos label. So here are a few pictures of my beloved JP Sally. Yes, I am one of those people who name their cars (I told you I have a strange fascination with automobiles). I realize there are many other forms of transportation and to prove that point I am sharing a few pictures along those lines that I took a little ways outside of my corner, in one of my favorite places, Chicago. Enjoy.

What The...

Allow me to set the scene for you. The other morning I was getting ready for work when I noticed out my window a bird lifting up the slats on my dryer vent. At the time I just assumed that he was taking lint to help build his nest. Later that day I came home for lunch and heard a very interesting sound coming from my dryer, it sounded like something was trapped inside. My mind instantly went to the bird and with some trepidation I opened the dryer, hoping that a bird wouldn't come flying out at me. I get that enough from the birds that have nested on my deck, thank you. To my relief there wasn't any birds inside the dryer and I realized that the good folks at Sears made it so that shouldn't happen. Fast forward a few days later and I am doing laundry when I decide to go see what is going on at the vent outside and I see this...

That's right. The bird wasn't stealing lint to take back to his nest, he was moving lint so he could build his nest in the vent! The amazing thing is that these slats lie flat when the dryer isn't in use so the bird must of had to lift them up numerous times from the outside to build his nest. Now I am afraid that my dryer may be cooking any eggs that might be in the nest. And as I am on the top floor of my building there really isn't anyway for me to check and see if that is, in fact, a true statement. Well for the time being I guess I will just turn the dryer to a lower heat setting and hope the birds decide its time to move out soon.

Breakfast Corner

A disclaimer first. I don't usually eat breakfast...at least not in the morning hours. I like sleep much better and choose to forgo food for 10 more minutes of shut eye. Is this a healthy choice? Probably not. But the weekends are a whole different story, brunch is the perfect meal time. This past weekend I had this...

...Jule Kake. A Scandinavian breakfast that is similar to French Toast only it is made from Jule bread, which is described as a fruit cake like bread. This is the only type of fruit cake I would consider eating. I was surprised that I liked this as much as I did, it really was good. The Jule Kake was devoured at Finns in Salt Lake City.


I wish my breakfast always looked like the one I had above. Sadly, this is what my breakfasts usually look like. Also they usually take the place of dinner like this...



...It's breakfast somewhere, right? Now that spring is in full force and I have cleaned off my deck, I am able to go outside and enjoy this more typical, for me at least, breakfast or rather dinner. Armchair Traveler

Thanks to the great Corner View project that Jane over at Spain Daily as started, I have been traveling the world via the comfort of my desk. Would I rather be traveling the world in person? Yes. My Corner

As always Caity has found the coolest blog; this time it is Spain Daily. Jane, who I am assuming is in Spain, has asked all her blogger buddies to post a picture of their corner of the world. And since I am not wanting to be left out, and have no issues jumping onto a bandwagon, I thought I would play along. You will have to forgive this picture as it was taken at the last minute and is literally just around the corner from my house in Cottonwood Heights, UT. Dream a Little Dream

The other night I had a dream and in this dream I had another dream. In that dream I had a great idea for a book and by great I mean it was the most genius, insightful, funny, ludicrous idea for a book that anyone had ever had. Then in I woke up from the dream in a dream and told myself that I should write down that idea because I needed to remember it as it was sure to be a bestselling, Pulitzer prize winning book. But the me in the dream thought there was no need to write down this idea as it was so clever there was no way I would forget it. I mean ideas like this don't come around very often and only an idiot would forget. And then the unimaginable happened...I woke up from my dream; after I had already woke up from my dream inside a dream! The worst part is that I can't for the life of me remember what this great book idea was! I wish the me in the dream would have been smart enough to write it down, if only for the me that was still dreaming to have been able to see the idea one more time. Then perhaps it would have stuck. Oh well, there is always the next dream. Wait...I remember the idea...nope that wasn't it...never mind.

RG Travel Tip #2

For The Birds

It must be spring because I am seeing birds everywhere. This morning on my way to work I saw a gaggle of geese using the crosswalk at 9th and Van Winkle. There are often birds all over this intersection and this is the first time that I saw them using the crosswalk, usually they just cross where ever it is convenient. It is nice to see them taking a safety first attitude. Now if only the ducks in my complex would do the same. They don't seem to care where they cross and don't really care if you are in a hurry to get to work. They have claimed the circle as their own and there isn't anything we can do about it. Mighty Ducks indeed. Then the other day at lunch I noticed that some finch-like birds have nested in the sunshade on my deck. Some of you may remember last year there was a bird battle over this nesting spot between competing birds. It will be interesting to see if that happens again this year or if these are the victors from last year. And lastly one final bird spotting. I was watching Lost and saw this commercial come on. Be on the lookout for one last bird sighting,around the minute 30 mark, it cracked me up!

One Last Post

Due to a complete lack of interest, this will be my last post. It's a tough economy out there and not even blogs are safe from cuts. Thanks to the 3 people, or so, who have commented on my posts over the last year. I hope you have enjoyed the randomness that was this blog. I know I had fun doing it; but since I see, or talk to, those of you who comment on a regular basis it will just be easier to fill you on my latest adventures, stories, complaints, etc. in person.
