Fall-ing

Well it seems that the trees have noticed that it is now officially Fall. In honor of the Fall Equinox Becky and I took a little drive. Here is a little of what we saw.

Meet Blanche

This is Lake Blanche high in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Rising above Blanche, and reflecting in her, is Sundial Peak. This was the destination of our final Saturday Summer Hikes, which is fitting as summer officially ends on Wednesday. Blanche was a great hike to end the summer on and at 8,900 feet above sea level she was a cool one as well. The Lake Blanche trail was by far the toughest of the hikes this summer but well worth the effort. The trail is uphill all the way to the lake but it is a gradual increase, if 2,580 feet in 2.8 miles can be gradual, and you really don't notice how high you've gone until you go back down. I suggest starting early in the morning, we started a little after 7am, to avoid the crowds and the heat of the day. Thanks to everyone who made the Saturday Summer Hikes so much fun. I am so glad we started our little hiking group/club this summer and am amazed at all the places that I have gotten to experience so close to home. I look forward to our Fall & Winter hikes.

ROAD TRIP!

My boss just got back from Canada and brought me back my favourite (note Canadian spelling) candy bar that you can't get in the states, the Cadbury Wunderbar. There really is no way to describe the goodness that is the Wunderbar. It is basically creamy Cadbury chocolate (which is not the same as the Cadbury chocolate sold here) covering peanut butter and caramel. And now that I have had a taste of it I want more! Canada is only a short drive up 1-15 through Idaho. Who's In? I am thinking that I will be needing boxes and boxes.

This past June I took this road trip to Canada. While there I stocked up on Wunderbar's and Canadian Kit Kats, well I thought I stocked up. I am now down to my last Kit Kat and a few lone Wunderbar's. I have found a store here locally that sells Wunderbars but I am in still in search of the Kit Kats. I may have to take another trip to the Deep North to get some!

Travel Rewind: Goblin Valley '05

This was not my first trip to Goblin Valley and it wasn't my last but it is my most memorable to date. It was Thanksgiving 2005 and we were camping. While that may not sound too memorable I should also add that I got very sick after the first night of this trip. I couldn't eat anything, it was freezing cold all night and all I wanted to do was die...and sing. Sing you ask? Well I was so delirious from the pain and the nausea that all I could do to keep from going mad (well more mad really) was sing along to my ipod. I am sure it wasn't in any kind of tune or pitch or key and I know that I was driving my fellow campers crazy but I didn't care, it took my mind off things. Also, subconsciously, I may have been hoping to drive them crazy so that they would put me out of my misery. It worked as we left early, but not without getting a few hikes in first which I am proud to say I completed. This was also the trip that ruined me forever on breakfast burritos. To this day the smell of them still makes me gag, the one exception being Sonic's breakfast burritos but I think that is because they are nowhere close to being real breakfast burritos or food for that matter!

Take a Hike

This summer a group of us attempted a Saturday Hiking Club and I think it was a complete success. Why? Because I got to explore parts of the state that I had never really explored before. The worst part of this crime is that most of these hikes were within 20 minutes of my house. I am glad that I got to find and enjoy these new places of wonder in nature. I have picked one picture from each hike that best captures what were the many highlights and attributes of each. I hope you enjoy.
